The great thing about Powersports (the term) is that covers a wide spectrum. True, it falls under Motorsports which is even wider, but Powersports is huge! What we’re leading up to is that dealers may only sell one type like snowmobiles but still be classified as a Powersports Dealer. Which type are you?

Generally, these are the categories for Powersports with one thing in common, they all have vehicles with some type of motor. Most are considered “sport” as well although, Motorcycles that are used for law enforcement would (or should) be the exception.

A large dealership might have all these categories whereas smaller dealerships might specialize in just one or two. Geography plays a role as well. Up north in Michigan, Minnesota, Wisconsin, New York, etc. you would find snowmobiles. Whereas, in Florida, Georgia, Texas ( southern states), they wouldn’t be a popular item. Although, mountains high and cold enough to have snow would be the exception.

Where Is The Demand For Powersports?

In this business, where for the most part our network deals with buying Motorcycles, ATVs, Snowmobiles & PWCs, demand doesn’t line up with usage. Meaning, people using the Powersports are not selling them. Right now, for example, sellusyourbike.com is looking for Jet Skis. Granted they do a lot of business in Florida. However, the sellers may be located up north, where it is winter.
The interesting thing is that no matter where in the U.S. you’re selling your motorcycle or jet ski, seasonality does exist. And for most Powersports, the biggest time of year to buy (or sell for that matter) starts in spring.

Hot For Harley Davidson Motorcycles

The Pandemic has had an interesting and profound effect on the used motorcycle market. Once it hit many of the manufacturers’ shutdown. Harley Davidson stopped manufacturing new Harleys. That created a big gap.

Hot Harleys

It wasn’t only Harleys, every used vehicle (ATVs, UTVs, Watercraft etc.) all saw an increase in demand. However, we really started to see the more costly vehicles were in even higher demand! Why was that? We’ll maybe its because some of the people that would have spent substantially more for a new Harley weren’t able to get them, so they decided to spend their money on a previously owned motorcycle and get a little more bike.

We saw the demand (and prices) go up for Harly Davidson Cruisers – Sport Glides, Steet Glides, and Ultras like; FLSTF Cruiser, FLHTCU Ultra Classic & Harley Davidson Road Glide FLTRX. In fact, we are still buying Harleys‘ like these and paying a premium!

Selling Your Motorcycles or ATVs

We understand that because of this you might not have the motorcycles on your lots as you would normally have. However, we have seen more requests for quotes on vehicles our dealers want to sell recently. Surprisingly as well is the fact that the prices and demand have been steady even into the fall where demand for motorcycles usually slows down.

ATVs have really picked up as well. Not surprisingly this time of year. Again, we are seeing and are interested in buying the $20k plus vehicles. ATVs, UTV, Side by Side, are popular. Polaris, Arctic Cat, Honda, and others are on our list.

Temporarily Only Buying Boats in Florida

The best time to sell a boat is at the beginning of boating season typically in the Midwest. This is when the demand for boat buying is the highest. In Michigan and other great lakes states, boating season typically begins on Memorial Day. Since it’s now spring/summer, most boat owners are getting or have already gotten their boats in shape for the season. It is also a time to SELL BOATS.

USAPSDN is open to all marina and boat dealerships to sell their used boats in our dealership network. Boat buying season is in full swing so Used Center Console Boats or used Walk Around Boats have the highest demand right now when sold. Conversely, we may have a need for boats so request a quote. We don’t keep many in stock to sell but if we do, it’ll be priced to sell.

Buying Walk Around Boats

People love Walk Around Boats during boating season because of how versatile they are. They can be used for cruising in freshwater or saltwater. Walk around boats are typically 18-28 ft long.

Buying Center Console Boats

Center Console Boats are typically larger than Walk Around Boats. Center Console Boats are built for more aggressive offshore salt or fresh waters. They can be up to 48 ft long and take up a lot of space.
